February 12th, 2021 is the start of the Chinese Year of the Golden Ox. The Ox (Cow) is the second animal in the Chinese Zodiac System and is a respected animal valued for its ability to work hard and endure. The element for the Ox is Yin Earth as it is long connected to farming. 2021 is a Yin Metal year which is harmonious with Yin Earth. This implies a calmer and more stable year; it is a year about the future and our hopes and dreams, which can start to inspire us again.
The overall outlook of this year is positive. Life will feel more peaceful and less stressful, but this year also requires patience as it will take time. 2021 is all about “re” actions: regroup, rebuild, reform, restructure, restore, replace, renew, reevaluate, reestablish and revitalize. There may be a recession due to the turbulence of 2020, but there will also be reunions as restrictions lift and some economic recovery by the end of the year.
In general, people will want to save money this year but will be more willing to spend on self-care and home repairs, as its been a safe-haven. There will be an emphasis on prevention and people will seek out natural supplements and Alternative Medicine like Acupuncture and Homeopathy. Digestion won’t be as strong this year, so it is advised to eat cleaner, healthier, lighter meals and enhancing digestion with natural remedies such as eating ginger and taking digestive enzymes which include tropical fruits like pineapple and papaya. Agriculture, especially small-scale organic farming will flourish this year due to the emphasis on health.
Being a Yin Metal year which corresponds to the Lungs in Chinese Medicine, there may be some minor irritations such as skin rashes and allergies but major lung issues will be less this year. Practicing deep breathing and using humidifiers and moisturizers will be important as skin and lungs will be dryer. People may feel more fatigued more easily and need to protect their energy by not overdoing, overworking or overexercising.
Yin Earth is about nourishing others so people will feel more affectionate and have a desire to socialize again, especially over meals. Most gatherings will be smaller with emphasis on cultivating important connections, strengthening family ties and close friendships rather than hosting large extravagant parties. People will also care about their communities and will be generous by sharing their resources. The most important ideals this year are kindness and compassion and caring for others in small ways will make a big difference.
